Valve adjustment

So I decided to check my valve clearences on my kz and while I had it apart, polish the valve cover. If any of you ever had to do this you know it's a bit of a pain in the ass since you have to remove both cams to get to the buckets where the shims go under. I ordered the appropiate shims from z1 enterprises and they arrived at my door last night. As I was moving the crank to tdc I noticed I was missing 1 spring that holds the advance mechanism. Also I pressed out the tubes on the top reed-valve covers and tapped them for a 3/8 npt plug. No more hose connecting the two sides. Back to the mcfadden dale for some more $hit. I'll get it all buttoned up tonight and ready for the Slab City Riot on saturday. Fuck yeah.....

NO WORK AND ALL CLAY

Carlos Carrasco, a student of transport design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona, has created this GPR concept, which uses the mechanical bits from a Derbi GPR 125 streetbike. ‘Designing a motorcycle is the most exciting thing you can do. All vehicles have a kind of soul that goes beyond the materials used to make them, but motorcycles are one step above,’ says Carrasco.Derbi agreed to collaborate with Carrasco on this project, and supplied him with a GPR 125 on which to base the project. Carrasco says his concept bike’s exaggerated proportions pay homage to Derbi’s 50cc racebikes from the 1960s and 70s, with their elongated fuel tanks and extreme riding position. Can this concept form the basis for a new Derbi streetbike? ‘I never thought it might become a street bike. I simply wanted to express my feeling for motorcycles in a project that has more sculpture than machine in it,’ says Carrasco. ‘As it is, the GPR concept is very aggressive and has extreme geometry. For a streetbike to be based on this, a lot of things would need to be changed,’ he adds.Derbi are, it seems, ready to give Carrasco an opportunity to design a real-world streetbike for them.

If you remember Project M85 Freeride, you’ll see the same idea in this new concept bike from Derbi, the Derbi DH 2.0, a mountain bike sized motorcycle with a small engine and very light weight. It has fuel in frame like a Buell, an automatic transmission, a 100cc air cooled 4 stroke engine, underseat exhaust, inverted fork, air monoshock out back and a dry weight of 88 pounds! That’s a lot closer to mountain bike weight than motorcycle. The DH in the name refers to downhill mountain biking. (They explain even the brand name Derbi originates from DERived from BIcycle. I didn’t know that!) And if I read things correctly, the engine can even be quickly dismounted for a fast downhill with less weight.
This is a pretty high tech little machine which also shows the guys who built Project M85 Freeride might be on to something. Cool.
